With her backpack slung over one shoulder, my daughter paused at the door and yelled, “Bye, I love you.” I yelled back, “Bye, I love you too. Let me know when you start home.” She’s headed to college and will only be gone a few hours. This exchange was nothing unusual, except I realized I used a word that I never use with my Marine son.
